Directions
Our farm is situated beside the Rio Negro in the South Pantanal, near the city of Campo Grande, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul.
We recommend that you fly into Campo Grande International Airport (which receives daily flights from the biggest cities in Brazil). From here, you can either drive or fly to Fazenda Barranco Alto.
Fazenda Barranco Alto does not provide a transfer service from the airport to the lodge, but the following companies do:
ATT
- Direct flights from Campo Grande or Aquidauana
- 4x4 vehicle
- 71 Dinarte Antunes Moreira street, União II, Zip Code 79091-521
- Amadeu Barbosa
- (+55) 67 9982 6156
- comandanteamadeu@hotmail.com
VAVATOUR
- Car transfers from Campo Grande or Aquidauana
- 4x4 vehicle
- Geovah Paulino de Araujo Filho (Vavá)
- (+55) 67 9984 9973
- vavatour@bol.com.br
There are different ways to get here, depending on the season:
In the dry season (June to October), it is possible to travel by 4×4 vehicle (at least 6 hours to Fazenda Barranco Alto, or 1.5 hours to Aquidauana). We do not recommend you hiring your own vehicle for the transfer, as the last 70km of the route to Fazenda Barranco Alto is an unmarked track, and so it is very easy to get lost, even with a GPS device – and there is neither a telephone signal nor internet reception to call for help.
In the flooded season (November to May), the only possible way of getting to the lodge is by small plane (1 hour from Campo Grande, 30 minutes from Aquidauana).
WHAT TO BRING & OTHER FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Don’t forget to bring:
- Flashlight, sunscreen, repellent, binoculars, camera with battery charger.
- Light clothes, jeans (for horseback riding and hiking), t-shirts, at least one long-sleeved shirt to protect against insects, shorts, a bathing suit, socks, trainers (sneakers), a waterproof jacket to protect against rain/wind, a hat.
- A shirt and a coat for the cooler, winter months between June and September.
- There will be soap in the bathroom, but we don’t provide shampoo or conditioner.
Since the lodge is in a remote location, there is no mobile phone reception here.
If you are travelling by plane to (or from) Fazenda Barranco Alto, then please check with the air transfer company. If necessary, there is a safe baggage storage service at Campo Grande International Airport.
More details will be provided after you make contact with us, as it will depend on when (during which season) you are wanting to visit us. The following links offer useful information about how to get to us.
Baggage
If you choose to fly, then we recommend that you travel with duffle bags or backpacks, because they fit better into a small aircraft. Please ask the air transfer company about the baggage allowance per person, as it can vary from 15kg to 25kg depending on the number of passengers.
Diseases / vaccines
A yellow fever vaccination certificate is highly recommended for travellers entering Brazil. There are certain countries in South America which require the certificate. In this region, there are no cases of malaria. Therefore, there is no need for prophylactic malaria treatment. In the Pantanal, ticks are not vectors for dangerous diseases, and mosquitoes neither transmit dengue, chikungunya, nor zika. Bring any personal medicines which you might need.
